PD/CA (Plan Do Check Act) Classic Rock Embroidered Ball Cap | Ode to AC/DC
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT ROCKS!
PDCA is the scientific method applied to process.
AC/DC is schoolboy kitsch applied to heavy metal.
Obviously, they belong together, on a classic rock Plan Do Check Act ball cap. Of course, we also have a t-shirt.
It's a great gift for operational excellence professionals, six sigma black belts, lean manufacturing lads.
Designed for those about to rock the Shewhart cycle (as Edwards Deming called it before he swapped the C for an S).
Comes (back in) black. Duh.
Nana nah nana nah nah—THUN DER!
Nana nah nana nah nah—SHEW HART!
What’s more metal than PDCA?
That silhouette at the top, thrashing a Gibson guitar, coming through the four-arrow PDCA symbol stylized as a gear…? That might be Angus Young…hoping along the stage. Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t.
And who knows if Angus and the Australian rock band legends ever engaged in any formal process improvement methodology? Maybe they did, maybe they didn’t.
They certainly did f**k around to find out. Like Bon Scott, who used to gargle red wine and honey to keep the rasp ripe in his unmistakable voice. Hell yeah. That’s metal as (a highway to) hell .
Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, You Shook Me All Night Long, Big Balls. These guys mastered the single entendre. Straightforward. Easy. Obvious, like Plan Do Check Act.
Quick AC/DC Fact: Iran was hit with a Def-Con 5 computer hack in 2009. The hackers planted Stuxnet, a virus that repurposed the computers in Iran’s nuclear facilities to do nothing but blast out Thunderstruck at full volume!

If you don't know...
Plan Do Check Act later was rebranded as Plan Do Study Act because “check” might imply inspecting quality into the process, which doesn’t work. Walter Shewhart solidified the cycle and made it popular (and then Deming really ran with it). It’s based on the basic scientific method.
Occasionally you find a leading O, as in OPDCA. The O stands for observe because it’s easy to jump to testing solutions with PDCA, but it’s vitally important to observe the current condition. That is, study the problem before you rock the cycle.
