Acknowledge the contribution of SPC genius, Walter Shewhart, on your walls. This poster gives a nod to statistical process control charts and culture. A bold design inspired by Shepard Fairey’s famous OBEY portrait of Andre the Giant.
The Op-Ex Office Needs Art
Cool insider's art, that is. Not generic inspirationals under a stock photo. Quality improvement peeps are going gush over this fun, funny take on Fairey’s pop art classic.
Give the lean six sigma team something to smile at every day. This poster will look great in the break room or the conference room. Heck, we'd put it in the office lobby.
It's (obviously) based on Shepard Fairey’s famous OBEY poster, which is actually a portrait of Andre the Giant (RIP).
You see the resemblance.

If you don’t know, allow us to explain. We love talking about control charts.
Our Fairey-esque portrait is of a young Walter Shewhart, the self-taught statistician who bequeathed unto the world control charts, or more broadly, statistical process control charts. He did a lot of his work at the Western Electric Company and we still today use his “WECO Rules” for separating assignable cause variation from common cause variation.
A control chart is the voice of the process. See, when a process is “in control,” it’s behaving as we’d expect it to. That’s not to say it’s behaving well. Bad processes can be predictable too. “In control” just means no surprises. Put a little differently, the variation seen from a process that’s in control is common, that is, caused by randomness. But a process that is out of control is demonstrating assignable cause variation, which is to say, it’s behavior is unexpected.
What if you don’t actually love Walter Shewhart? What if you don’t particularly feel an unpayable debt of gratitude to the father of SPC for all the wisdom and insight he brought to industry? Well, this is still a strikingly sharp poster, offered in three sizes. Pair it with the OHNO poster.
